There are many very strange myths and rumors about what causes and does not cause acne. Each of us should know the truth about the most common acne myths to avoid improper methods of acne treatment.
Some of the most popular myths, we are talking about, are:
Improper diet causes acne
Diet plays an important role in the production of oil from the skin but the simple fact of eating certain foods like chocolate, crisps and sugar is not sufficient to cause acne.
But these products cause the sebaceous secretions so acne usually gets worse if you’ve already got it. We recommend excluding chocolate, crisps and sugar from your diet: this will help avoid the worst.
Poor hygiene causes blackheads
Acne is not caused by dirt, blockages causing acne occur deep within the narrow follicle channel and you can not remove them by simple washing. Moreover bacteria involved in the development of acne live in the skin, so washing can reduce pimples but cannot prevent their appearance.
Masturbation causes pimples
There is no evidence which can verify that masturbation causes acne and the abstention from sex or intercourse can cure it.
Extruding, squeezing or popping pimples helps in acne treatment
Getting rid of pimples with your fingers is not “dry” nor will heal faster. Squeezing or popping pimples can cause more redness, pain and even infect inner layers of the skin.
Sunbathing cures or causes acne
Sunbathing does not cure you; however you can dry, irritate your skin or get a very sickly sunburn.
